Purpose: 
The Home Energy Yardstick, an initiative of the EPA's ENERGY STAR program, assesses a home's annual energy use compared to similar homes and offers recommendations on how to improve energy efficiency and lower utility bills.
Description: 
The Home Energy Yardstick, offered through the EPA's ENERGY STAR program, provides users with insights their home's energy use in the categories of heating and cooling, appliances, lighting, and hot water. The score is on a scale of 0 to 10 with 10 representing a home that used less energy over the last 12 months and performed well compared to its peers. The report also includes recommendations to improve the home's score, increase comfort, and lower utility bills as well as an estimate of annual carbon emissions.
