Applying for Federal Funding 101

With the influx of federal funding flowing out to communities over the next several years through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), also referred to as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), some communities, particularly smaller communities, may feel overwhelmed navigating the channels of federal grant funding opportunities. The purpose of this training is to help familiarize attendees with the process and information that may be required when applying for federal funding.

Building Retrofits for Energy Efficiency Workshop

This workshop focused on the importance of energy efficiency in building design, operations, and maintenance, and discussed strategies for designing and financing building retrofits to improve energy efficiency. The workshop was funded by a grant from the State Energy Conservation Office (SECO).

Charging Smart Informational Webinar

On June 5, 2024, NCTCOG hosted a virtual informational webinar for local government staff on Charging Smart. This program is a new technical assistance and designation program funded by the U.S. Department of Energy that aims to remove barriers to the expansion of EV charging infrastructure through zoning, permitting and inspection, public education, and more.

Creating Energy-Wise Water Conservation Policies Webinar

An NCTCOG-hosted webinar on the water-energy nexus. Topics include the environmental and financial benefits of water conservation, and strategies to achieve energy use reduction goals.

Emergency Preparedness and the Energy Supply

Disruptions in power occur for a variety of reasons in North Central Texas. Natural and man-made hazards can lead to disruptions in electric services to local government facilities, residential, commercial, and industrial sectors. This workshop will explore ways local governments can better prepare for future disruptions by reducing their electric demand.

Energy Efficiency Funding Roundtable

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) hosted a virtual roundtable on Friday, April 7th to discuss recently announced energy efficiency funding opportunities, including the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) program funds that have been allocated to cities in North Central Texas. The roundtable served as a forum for communities to discuss their plans for utilizing this allocated funding and the federal application process.

NCTCOG staff also shared information on other federal funding opportunities for energy-related projects released under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

Energy Management for Local Governments: Legislative Requirements, Benchmarking, and Tools to Measure Energy and Water Use

Public entities in North Central Texas spend large portions of their budgets on power for city facilities and services. The power generation needs associated with this energy use also impacts air quality at a regional level. Good management of these assets is critical to finding opportunities to reduce energy and water expenses, as well as associated air quality impacts. This workshop will provide information for local governments on Senate Bill 898, benchmarking, and Energy Star Building Portfolio Manager.

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) hosted a virtual roundtable on the topic of Energy Resiliency and Hazard Mitigation Planning on August 29, 2023.

ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager Webinar

On June 20th, 2024, Alamo Area Council of Governments (AACOG), NCTCOG, and West Central Texas Council of Governments (WCTCOG) hosted an online webinar on the EPA's ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager that explored how this web-based tool enables property owners to track and assess energy and water consumption across their building portfolios.

This workshop was held at NCTCOG offices on January 10, 2024. It was coordinated by SPEER and NCTCOG staff to help educate local governments and other reporting entities of the Local Government Energy Reporting requirement established by the Texas Legislature.

Lowering Local Government Energy Consumption Through Energy Planning and Policies

Good management of government-owned facilities is critical to reducing local governments' energy and water expenses, as well as air quality impacts associated with power generation. The foundation of good management is good planning. This workshop will provide information for local governments on establishing energy plans and policies, avoiding energy waste through behavior and Operation & Maintenance changes, and statutory reporting requirements.

NCTCOG: Resilient EV Charging and Minimizing Grid Impact Webinar

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) hosted a webinar on resilient EV charging-related topics such as grid outages in Texas, ERCOT’s demand forecast, managed charging and distributed energy resources. Staff discussed how these technologies could help mitigate energy impacts on the Texas grid and enable EV charging during outages as EV adoption and other energy demands increase.
